Habasit launches new TPU food belts

Habasit TPU-coated fabric belts are widely used in food processing and packaging industries due to their versatile properties. Characterised by high abrasion resistance, the compound helps to keep the belt surface smooth and easy to clean for longer. This also results in the belt maintaining very good release properties over its lifetime. TPU belts are suitable for operation in a wide range of temperatures and remain flexible in cold conditions. They do not influence taste, which makes them especially liked by the food industry.

Developing the new Habasit Premium range of TPU Food Belts our engineers focused on the biggest challenges food processors and packaging professionals encounter. From product recalls caused by contamination with foreign bodies to cost control and process automation – the two dominating topics for the industry today are food safety and operational efficiency.

The main challenges when developing the new TPU food belts were:

  • Working towards reduced Total Cost of Ownership and,
  • Designing the new product with enhanced hygiene performance in mind

Habasit Premium TPU Belts offer improved cost of ownership and enhanced food safety.

The significant features listed below have also added to the enhancemnet of the range:

  • Elevated temperature resistance

The new belts perform at temperatures of up to 110 °C / 230 °F continuously admissible. Particularly in bakery applications, this means a significantly extended belt service life, with a lower risk of joint damage. Higher temperature resistance also eliminates delamination, thus improving food safety.

  • Improved hydrolysis resistance

Enhanced resistance to hydrolysis and better chemical resistance are achieved with a new TPU formulation. This results in better resistance to humidity, improved belt service life, and better food hygiene

  • Reduced fraying of belt edges

A combination of spun fabrics and non-fray knitwear making up the belt design limits the risk of tearing long fibers out of the coating layers, which substantially improves belt service life and food safety. This combination is also nosebar suitable, permitting use with tight transfers

  • Improved low wicking via reverse side impregnation

A new impregnation formula for the reverse/running side ensures very low ingress of water and oils, which improves processing hygiene and prevents microbial growth on the belt running side.

Habasit TPU belts – the obvious choice for food applications

Habasit has also developed a range of profiles and other auxiliaries with matching chemical resistance that can be welded to belt tops and on reverse sides of belts, in order to fully meet all food belt application needs.
